SUGAR RUBY TINTED LIP TREATMENT REVIEW AND SWATCHES

I remember being introduced to Fresh Sugar Lip Treatments through Sephora's little birthday giftsets a few years back and it didn't take much to fall in love with them.

The line continues to expand its Lip Treatment Collection and the newest addition to the line is Sugar Ruby, the "first lip treatment containing mineral pearl particles for an iridescent finish".  It's enriched with the noursging sugar, hydrating oils and anti-aging vitamins, much like the rest of the Sugar Lip Treatment Collection, it claims to provide "six-hour moisture and essential year round protection from damaging UV rays". The formula is great for layering and building the color to create a sheer or rich hue.

Key ingredients include Sugar, Meadowfoam seed oil, Blackcurrant oil, Passionflower seed oil, avocado seed oil (to moisturize), Vitamin A (retexturize, refirm and smooth the skin), Vitamins C and E (antioxidant protection), Beeswax and Carnauba Wax (emollients, seals in moisture, softens the lips).

Ruby comes in a traditional Sugar Lip Treatment metallic-like tube matched up in color to the lip balm it hosts. I love the strudy feel of the bullet with its twist-off cap and matte finish.
The formula of the lipbalm is noticeably drier than the other Lip Treatments I have tried in the past. It has a satin, almost matte finish delivering a wash of color while moisturizing the lips. This is what I call a medium lip balm. It's not as rich as the original Lip Treatment which literally coats your lips in a rich film of oily/buttery goodness leaving you with that glossy effect. Ruby is much more subtle. It breathes life into dry lips, it hydrates them without looking like you just slathered a ton of balm on. It's almost undetectable in texture, even after 4-5 coats. The color builds up softly but manages to look incredibly natural and fresh looking. No pun intended. Ruby has the signature Fresh Lip Treatment scent: sweet and citrusy.

Every time I wear this lip-balm I can't help but think this would totally be up Princess Aurora's alley: "...Gold of sunshine in her hair, lips that shame the red red rose...". This lipbalm makes my lips look and feel the way I had always imagined Sleeping Beauty's lips looked and felt like; it's like a childhood dream of mine come true. I had to share that.

In conclusion, I enjoy Ruby but I personally prefer the much more hydrating version, which is the original one.  It's a lovely product and it's the first time I actually like a tinted balm but I crave more hydration whenever I wear it on its own so I like to pair it up with a "greasier" balm to get my fix.
