Make Up For Ever added two new shades to their Rouge Artist range this spring; both shades are very warm weather friendly 54 being a lovely Pearly Golden Pink and 53 a Pearly Pinky Copper. Rouge Artist Intense claims to contain "50% more pigment than traditional lipstick formulas, providing ultimate coverage and immediate payoff in just one application".
Both lipsticks have a pearl finish, with a moderate amount of shimmer in each color. I have to admit, brands took me by surprise this spring when they started releasing all these shimmery lip products in the midst of matte madness. The shimmer in these lipsticks imparts a shine to the colors and it is more apparent as the days goes on and the lipstick wears off. The formula is walking a fine line between dry and creamy. It has stiffness to it and it does appear to be much more pigmented than your average lipstick, a single pass will have my lips covered. I do think it's a good idea to apply a light balm prior to wearing these lipsticks as they can be slightly drying. The advantage of this formula is the wear, they seem to last really well on the lips and I can easily go between 3 to 4 hours with no need to reapply. The lipstick wears off nicely leaving behind a muted stain and a subtle shimmer that to my surprise wasn't obnoxious. The shimmer is very finely milled and it never felt gritty on the lips.
Both lipstick have a moderate amount of fragrance, a classic lipstick smell, give them a sniff and make sure you are okay with it if you are one of those people sensitive to fragrances.

I am still on the matte bandwagon when it comes to lipsticks but that doesn't stop me from enjoying a little shimmer here and there. These lipsticks have a great long wearing formula and great pigmentation. Like most pearl or frost finishes they will feel slightly drying so make sure you moisturize well before application; this step can really make all the difference in the way you experience this product.
