Skincare SOS: My Favourite Face Masks

Every chance of season my skin seems to change it's mind along with the weather and I know I am not alone.  As soon as the cold weather settles in so do dry spots and little breakouts all over my face. Montreal is notorious for its bipolar weather so it's no wonder I can't keep up with keeping my skin happy. The good news is that I have a few aces up my sleeve in the form of face masks. Today I'm going to share a few of my favorites with you.

Bliss Multi "Face"-eted All-In-One Anti-Aging Clay Mask
This charcoal based mask does a fantastic job at purifying congested akin, minimizing pores and zapping breakouts. I use it once a week whenever my skin acts up and I notice little bumps coming out here and there. The only con of this product is that it takes a while to take it off and you will need a good cleanser to remove the charcoal residue from your pores, which is completely normal, I do charcoal masks all the time and that's just what it does, it clings to everything.

Caudalie Moisturizing Mask

Despite having combination skin with very oily regions as soon as the weather shifts my skin screams for more moisture. I was amazed at how lovely this mask was. I like to slather a nice layer of it all over my skin, including dry under eye area and lips and just let it sit overnight only to wake up to nice, smooth and plump skin. I love using this mask after any clay based mask or any heavily exfoliating treatment just to restore the moisture levels in my skin. I also enjoy applying a thin layer under my make-up on days where I find my skin is really tight or when I just want that natural, dewy finish to my foundation.

Dr Hauschka Revitalizing Mask
This mask is a bit of a miracle worker. It`s loaded with nourishing oils and healing plant extracts that help repair distressed skin while nourishing it. I usually like to apply a thick layer of this stuff all over my face and decollete during periods where my skin is flaky, extra dry or itchy or after a very intensive exfoliation session where I might have over stripped my skin leaving it dry and parched. I also like to use during temperature changes or during and after flights, sun exposure, any activity that might have stressed out my skin really... it works miracles. It soothes and hydrates and it manages to restore my skin to its normal healthy states in as little as a few hours.

Dr Hauschka Hydrating Mask
This mask is loaded with oils and it helps hydrate and protect the skin. I like to use this mask over night during the cold months with a hydrating serum underneath to infuse some vitality and moisture back into my dry face when the indoor heating and the outdoor freezing temperatures take a toll on my skin.

Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask
This unique mask is comes in the form of a gel that will quickly turn into a foam once massaged into the skin. This mask is great for those days when your skin just needs a quick pick me up. The formula claims to infuse your skin with Vitamin C, antioxidants and oxygen and is inspired by their famous spa facials. I love using this prior to make-up application on days when I need my skin to be at its best and this mask does leave my skin nice and refreshed.

Lotus Aroma Green Clay Purifying Mask
This is another clay based mask and what makes it unique is the fact that it has a slight moisturizing aspect to it despite it's purifying properties. Clay masks tend to leave my skin parched especially during the cold season. this mask will never fully dry when applied and my skin is left feeling supple and soft but still hydrated.

Fable Naturals Green Tea + Clay Rejuvenating Mask
This mask comes in a powder form that you have to mix yourself as you use it. It smells incredible and it leaves the skin clean and soft to the touch. It's packed with awesome ingredients such as green tea, clay and kelp and it's made in Canada.

Estee Lauder NightWear Plus 3 Minute Detox Mask
This mask is another favourite of mine for those busy days when my skin needs a quick pick-me-up. I will usually apply a thin layer of it and let it sit for about anywhere between 5 and 10 minutes. This is not your typical deep cleansing mask but it does a great job at removing impurities and tightening up the pores leaving the skin fresh and clean. Although this is a clay based mask it's not drying at all the skin feels really nice and reasonably hydrated after using it.

Clay

The holy grail of all masks for me has always been good old clay. Simply mix it with water and slap it on your clean face, leave it on for 10 minutes and rinse off to reveal clean, smooth skin. You can always mix the mask with different ingredients according to your skin type (egg yolk, honey etc) but my favourite version of the mask involves apple cider vinegar and charcoal for extra astringent and purifying properties.

Manuka Honey
Little did you know, your pantry is filled with good-for-your-skin ingredients and honey is one of them. Manuka honey has extra antibacterial properties and honey in general acts as a humectant helping the skin retain more water therefor hydrating it and making it look extra plump. Simply slather a thin layer of honey on your clean face and rinse it off after 10-15 minutes.
