COVERGIRL Katy Perry Katy Kat Matte Lipsticks. Review and Swatches.

One of the most exciting launches in drugstore beauty this year is the new Covergirl and Katy Perry Katy Kat Matte Lipstick collection. There are 11 shades in total and I have to say I was very impressed with the fun range of colors when I first started playing with them. The lipsticks are supposed to have a demi matte finish and I agree with that description, they have a slip to them when applied and don't have any obvious shine but don't look or feel matte. They feel comfortable on the lips and have a satiny finish and somehow manage to be very... flexible; they fill fine lines, go on smoothly and wear off gradually through the day. The pigmentation varies from color to color but across the board I would say I find it good for a drugstore lipstick. Most of the shades require some building up and layering in order to get good, even and saturated pigment but the formula is very layerable and manages to look nice regardless of how much you pile on. The one shade that disappointing me was Cosmo Kitty, mostly because I was instantly drew to it the moment I saw it; the color is a lovely violet that can go on patchy when first applied and despite my best efforts to built it I still found some areas on my lips were uneven, which is such a bummer given how stunning the shade is.
A few shades that stood out to me were Perry Panther, a fantastic black shade with great pigmentation, Catoure, a darkened nude with brick tones, Sphynx, a soft nude, Coral Cat a lovely coral, Crimson Cat, a neutral red Cat Call, a lovely fuschia and Maroon Meow, a wine red.

I loved the color selection in this range and I applaud Covergirl for the bold shades and I hope to see more coming, the formula was pretty good and they all wear nicely. Most formulas performed well despite the occasional slip and patchiness, they felt comfortable on the lips and looked fantastic on. My one big criticism is the smell and taste of the lipsticks and I find this to be a problem with most drugstore items, these lipstick have a sweet, powdery smell scent to them that I am not particularly fond of but I am willing to overlook for a lipstick I really like and there are a lot in this range.
